Just days after interisland carrier Aloha Airlines announced discontinuing all operations which affected hundreds of local Hawaii travelers, ATA has followed with an announcement of closure that came overnight and just one day after filing for bankruptcy also. ATA had agreed to help stranded Aloha Airlines passengers who were feeling the fallout from the closure of that airline, but now those stranded passengers in Hawaii will have to once again look for help from other carriers to continue on with their travels to and from Hawaii.
“After filing for Chapter 11 on April 2, 2008 in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Indianapolis, IN, ATA Airlines has discontinued all operations and cancelled all current and future flights. Following the loss of a key contract for our military charter business, it became impossible for ATA to continue operations. Unfortunately, we were not in a position to provide our customers or others with advance notice.“

All airline companies that fly into Argentina arrive mainly at the International Airport “Ministro Pistarini” at Ezeiza, located at 37 Km (22 miles) from the City of Buenos Aires.

FLY TO HAWAII 2004 boasts the most complicated and sophisticated visual model of the DC10 Jetliner released to the public todate. You’ll be flying a DC10 Jetliner that has all the visual characteristics you expect in state of the art jetliners. Plus a DC10 Cockpit that is fabulous and those aircraft sounds will bring you back to that `classic’ era with the wind at your back and the blue sky straight ahead.
The DC10 Flight Office sports that `ole classic’ look of the 70’s. You can visibly see some wearing on the knobs and the background panel … the `very worn’ parts and the `old look’ of this panel puts it in the 1970’s. This is just one of the panel features that give it its `authentic’ look and feel from the period of the `classic three holers.’
The Flight Office sports a GPS System for a modern onboard navigation system in addition to the `classic’ INS (Inertial Navigation System) navigation system of the 1970’s. You’ll find this feature particularly effective as you immerse yourself in over 170 Flight Plans that have been designed for use with either the `classic’ INS Navigation System of the 70’s or the modern GPS system of our times. This title is also the only DC10 Jetliner package in the FlightSoft series that will instruct you on use of the INS Navigation System with a detailed example on how to load the waypoints in the INS Computer and prepare it for use on long haul flights to Hawaii, the Caribbean, locations in Europe, North America, Latin America and South America, South East Asia or even the Congo and other exotic African locations.

MANILA, Philippines – The Airbus A380, launched almost four years ago, is every inch a marketing tool as it is an advantage to airlines that own the world’s biggest commercial aircraft.
After all, only a handful of carriers have the 525-seater plane in their fleets given the Super jumbo jet’s premium $320-million price tag. The next biggest plane, the Boeing 747-400 from rival Boeing, costs $50 million to $100 million less.
Equally few and far between are the men than call themselves A380 pilots. But while no Philippine carrier can afford the jet, and no local airport can fully accommodate it, Filipinos can take pride in the fact that behind the wheel of one of the biggest man-made objects in the sky is one of their own.

We’ve dedicated a lot of blog space here at Wired.com to outlining all the ways the airline industry is screwed and predicting that things will only get tougher. U.S. airlines are paying record prices for fuel and burning it in some of the world’s oldest planes. They’re also slashing services and alienating passengers. It’s no wonder the domestic air travel industry .
Foreign carriers, on the other hand, are livin’ large despite the challenges. Germany’s last year, and British.Over at Air France, company brass are saying fuel prices are hitting the bottom line hard and the airline must U.S. airlines wish they had that problem.

Gulf AirIts flights may be cheap but you get what you pay for. Flights are frequently delayed or canceled without reason, the meals are poor, and the staff is unfriendly. Moreover, you won’t be compensated for any lost time and the staff will do nothing to accommodate you. In fact, they probably could care less. Gulf Air needs to take some lessons from its neighbor Emirates and learn what flying is all about.

Polar was formed in 1993 to operate worldwide scheduled cargo services. Since then it has been one of the fastest growing scheduled all-cargo airlines in the world operating a fleet of Boeing 747 freighters all over the world. This program takes you from New York's JFK Airport around the world and back in the cockpit of the 747-200 and 747-400. Pilots will give you a series of different presentations, you will see them at work and listen to communications with ATC, even witness a go-around on short final at Miami's International Airport.

Jet Airways chose Brussels Airport (voted Best Airport in Europe in 2006 by the Airport Council) as its European hub for developing its international network to Europe and America. This decision will have a tremendous impact on the activities in and around the airport: the processing of operations, a great influx of transfer passengers, interconnectivity as well as the creation of additional job opportunities. Brussels Airport, Jet Airways and code share partner Brussels Airlines have entered into a close cooperation to offer a transfer product that will make Brussels Airport the main European hub, thus interconnecting the large regions of the world, Europe, the United States, Canada, Asia and Africa.

JD Power and Associates ranks North American airlines based on customer satisfaction. In the Alaska Airlines took the award taking 5 stars (or dots) in all categories. “Alaska Airlines has made notable improvements in the courtesy and knowledge of its check-in staff from 2008,” said Dale Haines, senior director of the travel practice at J.D. Power and Associates.June 30th) I do remember some concerns from ranking agencies from Alaska Airline in some specific but I guess they have improved.
Continental took second prize which is surprising. JD Power said that “Continental Airlines performs particularly well in the in-flight services and cost and fees measures.” Um doesn’t, Continental have a So I don’t understand that part, they seem pretty average with checked baggage. Then for the second part their IFE (in-flight entertainment) they have been installing on there fleet and again that is limited to a few aircraft. This makes me question JD power a bit.
In the Low Cost carrier category JetBlue has received awards by these agencies ranking airline. People really seem to like Jetblue IFE, which is oddly enough (different link). Southwest who ranked second along withWestjet, ranked lowest in In-flight entertainment and aircraft experience. The In-flight entertainment thing I can understand but Aircraft experience? It a regular 737 on all the flight but then again JD power doesn’t exactly specialize in airline. One more interesting thing about Airline service rankings, Skytrax ranks but scroll down to customer ratings they are way higher than 3-Stars. Just a thought.

The Atlantic Airlines Cadet Pilot Programme/Sponsorship Scheme provides a great opportunity for aspiring pilots. It takes trainee pilots who hold a valid Private Pilot’s Licence (PPL) and can meet the selection criteria, to the issue of a full Airline Transport Pilot’s Licence (ATPL) and Instrument Rating (IR).
The Atlantic Airlines’ sponsorship scheme is funded fully up front by Atlantic Airlines, with 50 per cent of the initial training costs later paid back by the pilot: but this is only after they have successfully completed the programme and are working and getting paid as a First Officer with the airline. All successful cadets are employed by Atlantic Airlines on completion of the programme, which includes type and line training, as a Commercial Pilot with one of Atlantic Airlines’ aircraft types.

Southwest Airlines confirmed today that it has submitted a bid that would allow the airline to assume ATA Airlines’ rights to operate at New York’s LaGuardia (LGA) Airport through a purchase of ATA Airlines. The bid was submitted in connection with the publicly announced auction process in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Indianapolis and consistent with the Federal Aviation Administration’s recent rule clarification regarding LaGuardia’s slots.Southwest is working with ATA Airlines with respect to the terms and conditions of the bid. The bid does not contemplate operating ATA, but it is intended to allow Southwest to acquire the LGA slots.
The $7.5 million bid seeks to obtain the rights to 14 slots at LaGuardia that are currently held by ATA Airlines, which filed for bankruptcy protection on April 2, 2008. Those 14 slots would permit an operation of up to seven daily roundtrip flights at LaGuardia. Southwest would not acquire, as a part of its bid, any aircraft, facilities, or employees of ATA.
"It is our intent, with the successful conclusion of the transaction, to make plans to initiate service from LaGuardia," said Southwest’s Chairman, President, and CEO Gary Kelly. "Even in this volatile environment, we have said we must monitor the competitive landscape and take advantage of prudent market opportunities."
The bankruptcy court must approve the bid and a reorganization plan for ATA Airlines before Southwest could gain the rights to ATA’s LaGuardia slots.
Once the acquisition is finalized, Southwest will work with the Federal Aviation Administration and the Port Authority of New York to commence service at LaGuardia, including acquisition of the necessary airport gate(s) and facilities. Details on the commencement of service or the cities that would be served by Southwest from LaGuardia have not yet been

Check-inThe check-in was process was swift and painless, and partially so because the airport was slightly empty (morning flights not exactly being the craze). The airport staff were also familiar with my Students Pass, something I’d been worried about previously, as to whether or not it would end-up causing unnecessary delays. The Jet Airways staff at the baggage check-in counter was nice enough to ask me about my college and course (and I was nice enough to explain. In detail.)

In this second part of the interview with Sanjay Kumar, the Chief Commercial Officer owe talk about my favorite topic – airline branding. Sanjay believes that branding is all about how customers experience Indigo as a brand, not just how they perceive as a brand. And there is a conscious effort at Indigo to translate the brand promise into a great experience through systematic implementation.Consistency not only in the sky, but also on the groundWhen someone flies Indigo Airlines, what he looking for? Sanjay believes that it’s not a five star flying experience. He’s looking for an easy, hassle-free travel experience. And Indigo lives up to the expectation. Not only do they have Queue-busters – mobile check-in counters that Sanjay mentioned in the first part of his interview last week, but they are also the first airline to have welcome announcements on the “coach” that takes passengers to the aircraft. It makes them feel that the journey has begun. Why low pricing isn’t sustainable?Sanjay feels that the current spate of low airfares in India is a short-term phenomenon and it’s a ploy to get …

AN airline which has had five separate fires on jets landing at Manchester Airport has been blacklisted.Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has been told by Europe's aviation safety chiefs that it can use only seven of its 37 aircraft on flights to European Union member states. The curb, announced this week by the European Commission, follows a series of inspections of the airline's operations and maintenance in Pakistan.

As airlines and airplane manufacturers continue to concentrate on increasing capacity, the European Union (EU) took an important step in regulating greenhouse gas emissions from the civil aviation sector. Earlier this week, the European Parliament approved a plan that would require EU-registered airlines to apply for emissions permits beginning in 2011. Similar to other polluting industries within the European Union Emissions Trading Scheme, airlines will be required to reduce their emissions or offset excess emissions by purchasing additional credits or investing in international climate protection projects.

This announcement is of particular importance as emissions from aviation have doubled since 1991, and were expected to increase by an additional 50% by 2012. Under the new plan, each airline would be allowed to emit 90% of its average emissions for a 2004-2006 reference period. The aviation plan is part of the EU's effort to reduce its total greenhouse gas emissions by 20% by the year 2020.

Continental Airlines

One of the first major contracts that we ever signed for fleet painting, our association with Continental Airlines still remains strong as the sole provider of all stand-alone paint. Since 1995, Leading Edge has painted in excess of 600 aircraft for Continental and currently services multiple lines of aircraft at our Amarillo, TX, facility.

Singapore Airlines
Boasting one of the youngest fleets in Asia, Singapore Airlines has been synonymous with superior service for decades and is widely seen as raising the bar for the industry as a whole. It is consistently a charter customer when either Airbus or Boeing comes out with a new model, enabling it to take advantage of the most fuel-efficient aircraft. Thanks to that formula, Singapore Airlines makes more money than any other carrier in the region.

This has been common practice in the Airline industry for years, people dont cancel theirreservation, and are a 'No-Show' and the seat goes out empty, if it were not for the practiceof 'Overbooking' of the flight the Airlines would lose money. But recently the airlines have been caught with too many flights that are overbooked and noseats for the passengers, causing air rage, headaches, missed connections etc.

The 1970s brought dramatic changes in the configuration of Eastern Airlines. Internationalization was begun, and Eastern opened routes to new markets such as Madrid, Mexico City, Santo Domingo, Nassau and London. Services from San Juan 's Luis Munoz Marin International Airport were expanded, and Eastern bought the Lockheed L-1011 jet, which would become known in the Caribbean as El Grandote (the huge one).
Boeing 747s were also introduced for a short time during that period, and Eastern became the official airline of Walt Disney World. Eastern's official ride at Disney's Magic Kingdom park was If You Had Wings.

Eastern Air Lines began life on April 19, 1926 as Pitcairn Aviation. Pitcairn won a government contract to fly mail and operated Mailwing single-engine aircraft to fly the US Mail between New York and Atlanta. In 1929 Clement Keys, the owner of North American Aviation, purchased Pitcairn, and in 1930 he changed the name to Eastern Air Transport, and would soon be known as Eastern Airlines. In 1938, the airline would be purchased by World War I flying ace, Eddie Rickenbacker. Rickenbacker pushed Eastern into a period of prodigious growth. Throughout the 1940s, competitors were acquired, more advanced planes were purchased and international routes were opened.
By the 1950s, Eastern's propellers were very prominent up and down the East coast of the United States.
In 1960 Eastern's first jets, Douglas DC-8s arrived, allowing Eastern to open non-stop service from New York City 's Idlewild International Airport to Los Angeles, California. The DC-8s were joined in 1962 by a brand new sister, the Boeing 727. Around this time, Eastern started changing their plane's livery colors to include the dark blue hockey stick design that is now famous in the airline industry

7 Dec 2007. Somebody once said that a week is a long time in politics, well it can be just as long in the airline industry. Last Friday morning we awoke to the news that Nationwide airline had been. Unfortuanatley South Africa's Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA) did not shower itself in glory in terms of its communication effort, and we were about the grounding. Then in the midst of all the drama, the SACAA's CEO, Zakes Myeza, resigned (talk about leaving in the middle of your own party). Happily, this all seems to be running to a good ending with Nationwide set to operate a tonight, and several local South African flights on the weekend.
Nationwide represents a vital component of the flight price competition in South Africa (just look at our past surveys and you'll see how often they are the cheapest), and we are therefore very pleased for them, their staff, their customers and the country in general that they are back :) Well done Vernon, we hope that Nationwide goes from strength to strength. As a sign of good faith we will include Nationwide in our flight survey again this weekend (and we hope you top it, as you often do).
The big winner out of the story(owned by Imperial Holdings Limited), which has won the contract to do the heavy maintenance for Nationwide Airline.

Merger helps offset record prices, creates stronger global airline to compete in Open Skies. Delta pilot leadership reaches agreement on post-merger contract
ATLANTA,and EAGAN, April 14, 2008 – Delta Air Lines Inc. (NYSE: DAL) and Northwest Airlines Corporation (NYSE: NWA) today announced an agreement in which the two carriers will combine in an all-stock transaction with a combined enterprise value of $17.7 billion, creating America’s premier global airline.

Saint Paul – The following is a statement from.Governor Tim Pawlenty regarding the announced merger of Delta and Northwest.
“We will be closely scrutinizing the impact of the merger and will strongly stand up for Minnesota’s interests during the review process. Our goal will be to maintain hub operations, related levels of flight service, and the maximum number of airline jobs in Minnesota.

Once again I have been forsaken by American Airlines. This is the third flight in a row where my agenda has been utterly destroyed. It is also the third time (in two months) that I have seen what happens when unhappy workers have to deal with the inefficiencies of a sub par service business.

The worst part of all of this is that no one who works here really cares, and as such business travelers are continually turned off. It is becoming impossible fly American Airlines; as every time we fly American, we lose money (due to lost meetings, time etc.) and we get a little bit older due to the stress of trying to fly on an airline where the staff is working against you, instead of with you (notice I did not say for you, even though they should work for us as we pay our hard earned money. I would settle for working with me at this point).

Not just for wasting my time though. American Airlines represents everything I hate about the state of air travel and service businesses at large in America.

Emirates Airlines is set to expand its network even further this year with the start of services to the West Coast of the U.S. On September 1st 2008 Emirates will open its third U.S. gateway with non-stop flights between the Californian city of Los Angeles and Dubai. The second route will launch on October 26th 2008 with non-stop flights between San Francisco and Dubai.

EK215 will depart Dubai (DXB) at 08:20 daily and arrive in Los Angeles (LAX) at 13:55. EK216 will depart Los Angeles at 16:45 daily and arrive in Dubai at 19:40 the next day. The new flight runs a distance of 8,339 miles, clocking 16 hours 35 minutes journey time to California, while the shorter return flight will be just under 16 hours.

EK225 will depart Dubai (DXB) at 08:45 daily and arrive in San Francisco (SFO) at 13:45. EK226 will depart San Francisco (SFO) at 15:45 daily and arrive in Dubai at 19:25 the next day. The distance between the two cities is 8,103 miles, which is about a 16 hour journey to San Francisco. The return flight will be 15 hours 40 minutes.

Am I excited about the new routes? I don't know. But for sure we are going to have some "interesting" new kind of people to blend in our already weird-mixed-country.
